Lethbridge Broadband Pilot
IBI Group was retained to define and develop a preliminary design, along with specifications and standards, to expand the City of Lethbridge’s existing dark fiber-optic network to selected industrial parks. The initiative was part of a pilot project to improve the attraction and retention of businesses in the city’s industrial areas and to support future land development.

Attracting economic growth through broadband connectivity
IBI Group worked with the City of Lethbridge to design the operating model for the delivery of broadband services within the two identified project areas. A key part of this process was mapping the City’s existing fiber-optic network architecture, identifying interconnection points to the strategic target areas, as well as possible connection points for future smart city technology implementations.
We helped the City select a design-build contractor to complete the detailed design packages and proceed to the construction of the fiber-optic infrastructure. We also provided project management services during the construction phase and provided critical support during the transition to the operations phase of the project.
We are also providing strategic guidance to the City in selecting a network operator for the fiber-optic infrastructure that will deliver retail broadband services to businesses and residents in the project area.
